House of Bathory (CLOSED)

Fun Factor: Very High Fear Factor: High

Review

The House of Bathory has been my favorite haunt for the past couple of years. This year once again it remains at the top of my list. They have always been one of the only haunts left that has an "old school" style haunt. I have always loved the interactions that take part in each and every scene. By doing these interactions, it makes you feel as though you are part of the evil doings that are happening around you. I will warn you they are not afraid to touch you in this haunt. Dead by Dawn Productions chose a history theme for their haunt this year which I have never seen done by any other haunt I've ever been to. From the minute you walk up the steps in the House of Bathory till the minute you exit I felt as though I have traveled back in time to witness and take part in the horrific events that have happened in the past.

Signage / Visibility / Location

The location of this haunt is located right on the main street of downtown Manitowoc. It is very easy to find just look for the Mad Hatter sign that's in the window.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

This haunt does have an outdoor wait area so with the unpredictable weather of Wisconsin make sure to dress appropriately. They did have a magician for your entertainment while you wait in line.

Actors' Performance

The actors really did an excellent job at assuming their roles of people from history. They all fit their roles perfectly and executed them without any flaws.

Length

It took about 25 minutes to walk the entire haunt.

Summary

Overall, this is a must see haunt. I would recommend it to anyone over the age of 15 just because of the more adult nature of some of the scenes and the scares that wait inside.

A Theater Of Lost Souls Presents: Nightmare Factory Haunt

by x0char0x (Newbie Review Crew Member) after attending on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at about 3:30 p.m.

Fun Factor: Very High Fear Factor: Very High

Review

Nightmare Factory is a haunt that I have added to my must see list. I have always been a fan of them when they were located in Oshkosh and now that they moved into an actual Nightmare Factory it has completely blown me away. Room after room is filled with things that would only be created in a nightmare factory. I was left completely surprised and impressed around every corner.

They start you off at what looks like the loading docks of an old factory. Once inside you are lead up an old stairwell and leads you to the 3rd floor of the factory. Once the door opens you are thrown into a world that only the dead would live in. About half way through, you reach a point where you enter a 3-D effect style haunt. The 3-D effects usually don't do much for me but I was actually impressed by theirs. They kept with it the entire way through and each scene contained scenes I would never think to put into a 3D style haunt.

Signage / Visibility / Location

The location of this is very easy to find. They have a giant spotlight out front and it is located right off of the main street of downtown Manitowoc.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

We did end up waiting in line for approximately 20 minutes. In those 20 minutes, we were thoroughly entertained by BoBo the clown with his crazy jokes and antics. He definitely knew how to entertain a crowd.

Actors' Performance

The actors in this haunt did a very good job staying in character. It was like they actually became their particular character in the haunt. They knew exactly when to surprise you and what to do to really get under your skin.

Sets Scenes / Props / FX

The scenes in this haunt are typical haunt scenes but you can definitely tell the extra time and effort that was put into them. They are set up extremely well and laid out perfectly.

Length

This was one of the longer haunts that I have been to. It is located on 3 different floors so it takes a little while to walk through the entire thing. I would say it was about 40 minutes of scares.

Summary

Overall, this is one of the best haunts that I have ever been to. I would recommend it to anyone over the age of 14.

Green Bay Fear Haunted Attractions

by x0char0x (Newbie Review Crew Member) after attending on Friday, October 7, 2011 at about 4 p.m.

Fun Factor: Very High Fear Factor: Very High

Review

This was my first year attending Green Bay Fear and it is a haunt that I will definitely be returning to. They have combined a way to incorporate all the things that leave you nightmares. As you enter, you are lead down a path in the woods. You never know whats lurking in these woods. After the woods you are lead to a very detailed haunted house set into the woods. As you enter, you can just feel that there is something not right with this house. From the beginning, you feel as though there is a chance that you will not make it out alive. As you tour the house, you are lead into room upon room that is filled with things you can't even imagine.

Signage / Visibility / Location

The location of this haunt is very easy to find. They have signs out front and people standing by the drive directing you to the parking area.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Being the beginning of the haunt season there wasn't much of a wait but they do have a very creepy clown waiting for you. If you opt for the RIP admission they have a live band for your entertainment as well as hot chocolate as you wait to enter.

Actors' Performance

I felt as though the actors did an outstanding job. They stayed in character the entire time and truly made you feel as though they lived in this house.

Sets Scenes / Props / FX

The scenes in this house were very unique. They actually made it look like a house of your nightmares.

Length

It took about 30 minutes to complete the entire haunt.

Summary

Overall, this was one of the better haunts that I have ever been to. I would recommend it to anyone over the age of 14 that is looking for a good scare.

Terror on the Fox

by x0char0x (Newbie Review Crew Member) after attending on Friday, October 7, 2011 at about 2:30 p.m.

Fun Factor: High Fear Factor: Medium

Review

Terror on the Fox is one of the largest haunts in Wisconsin. They have been around for 15 years adding more and more every year. They start you off on a train ride which is extremely unique. On this train you feel as though your worst nightmare is coming true as smoke starts to pour in and you will be left stranded in the middle of the woods with monsters and ghouls attacking you. After leaving the train you are lead down a path into the woods where if you bought the combo admission or just the regular admission you are divided. We got the combo admission so we headed to the 3rd Dimension. As you entered into the 3rd Dimension you are thrown into a freak show literally. You are at a circus that is unlike any circus you would go to as a child. After leaving the 3rd Dimension you enter the Void. The void was something I have seen done at other haunts but on a bigger scale. It'll definitely leave you with anxiety as you are walking through and you end up lost in the darkness. After the Void, you enter their 3rd haunted attraction Torment. As you are walking through, you enter room after room of a school like setting except its like a school for the dead. Finally, you are lead down another trail in the woods to the last attraction Ominous. It is a house unlike any house you have ever seen. This has always been my favorite at their haunt. You wind down hallways of terror and doom and you don't know what to expect around each corner.

Signage / Visibility / Location

The location of this haunt is very visible. It is located right on a major road and they have a lighted sign out front so you cant miss it.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

There wasn't much of a wait when we got there but they do offer concessions. I didn't see any actors outside for entertainment though.

Actors' Performance

I felt the actors did a good job. There was a couple spots in the house where they were out of character which threw it off. Also, in the Void and Torment there could have been more. There were a few rooms that could have been a lot better with even just one person in there.

Sets Scenes / Props / FX

The scenes and props at this haunt are unlike anything I've ever seen before. You can definitely see the effort that was put into it.

Length

It took about 45 minutes to get through the entire haunt. They were about 15 minutes a piece.

Summary

Overall, it was a good haunt. In my own opinion, I feel as though they are trying to do too much with not enough help. I would recommend it to anyone who loves haunts over the age of 13.

The Haunted Barn Stoughton (PERMANENTLY CLOSED)

by x0char0x (Newbie Review Crew Member) after attending on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at about 4 p.m.

Fun Factor: High Fear Factor: Medium

Review

The Haunted Barn is a haunt that I have added to my must see list. They have created a complete nightmare of horrors. From the beginning, you are left wandering in a world of darkness and surprise. There are monsters and killers lurking around every bend just waiting for you to entire their world. After walking through the first part of the barn, you are lead down a dark path leading into the woods. The woods really add to the effect of this haunt. You feel as though you are walking through some strange forest and you don't know who or what will get you. I will add that there were some dead spots in the woods. Just a few more actors, would have just blow it away. After the woods, you are lead back to the barn and enter more rooms of darkness and terror.

Signage / Visibility / Location

This haunt is very visible from the hwy. It has a lighted sign out front directing you into the parking area.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Being the beginning of the haunt season we didn't have any wait time to get in however, I did notice a few actors outside wandering around waiting for their next victim to approach.

Actors' Performance

The actors did a very good job. They always stayed in character and you never knew where they were lurking inside the haunt. I will say though there was a couple dead spots that would have been even better with an actor there.

Sets Scenes / Props / FX

The Haunted Barn has some very unique scenes inside their haunt. They have the layout set up where you don't know whats waiting for you around the next bend. Everything just leaves you with that eerie feeling and makes you think that you are entering a barn of terror instead of just a haunted house.

Length

It took approximately 40 minutes to walk the entire haunt. It is one of the longer haunts I've ever been to.

Most Memorable Moment

The most memorable moment I had at the Haunted Barn would have to be watching my future brother-in-law's girlfriend scream and get terrified around every corner.

Summary

Overall, the Haunted Barn is a very well put together haunt. You can see the creativity and thoughts that are put into it. I would recommend it to anything that loves haunts who are over the age of 13.
