Mars Haunted House is a good haunt in the Milwaukee area. The makeup and the actors outside were incredible! It's a little shorter than some haunts, but some of the rooms were really quite interesting and worth the visit.

Signage / Visibility / Location

Very easy to find with some signage out front. Located on the upstairs level of the building.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

It was pouring rain outside when we visited this haunt, so it was really unfortunate that the wait area is all outside on the street/sidewalk. I would have really liked some covered areas to wait under.

There were two actors outside in the rain with us who were by far the best actors in the entire haunt. Their makeup/masks, costumes, demeanor and acting were absolutely flawless and they were definitely my favorite part.

Actors' Performance

Inside the haunt, none of the actors talked to us. They mostly walked around creepily and jumped out at us threatening us with wicked stares and weapons of all sorts. I was a little disappointed in the lack of interaction or script of any sort.

Sets Scenes / Props / FX

They rooms were interesting and different, but a lot of space was filled with just dirty broken furniture that didn't really fit the haunt for any reason besides taking up space. Some of the props were interesting and fun, but a lot of them  were things I had seen before - nothing really unique and different here.

Length

I would say that we waited to enter the haunt for about 10-15 minutes and we spent about 15 minutes inside. However, the reason we were inside for so long was because we kept taking breaks and stopping in the middle of the hallway to avoid running into the group ahead of us.

Crowd Control

A true disappointment. I understand that we were there just before closing and they probably wanted to rush us through to go home... but there weren't that many people there and we ran into the group ahead of us several times and the group behind us caught up with us, then, too. They really need to work on spacing groups out better.

Most Memorable Moment

Definitely the actors outside the haunt were the best and most memorable. I wish we would have seen more of them inside the haunt as well.

Summary

Not the most terrifying of haunts, but a good one to visit if you're in the area. I would suggest visiting early in the evening to avoid big lines and running into other groups.

Plenty of Parking in lot or around haunt, haunt was very easy to get to, we had no problem finding it. They had monsters tormenting people in line while you waited. We got there at 6:45, and were quick to get in once 7 PM hit. I was w/ 2 other people, and we were able to go in as our own group. The rooms were very detailed, although it was pretty dark at times so you couldn't really see all the detail. About 3 of the rooms we went in there were no actors in, so that was a little disappointing. I'm not sure if this was because we went on a Sunday and they were short or what. The actors all stayed in character very well. We never ran into anyother groups while we were in the house.

Summary

It is definately a good haunt to go to, I've been going to this haunt the past 3 years and it's never been very disappointing.

If you're looking to totally immerse yourself into a nightmarishly good time, look no further. This year's Mars Haunted House once again offers an immersive experience that will excite your senses. Sets and passage ways are elaborately decorated with a keen attention to detail to provide ample visual stimulation. Encounters with ghouls seeking not only to scare the bajeezus out of you but also to creep you out make for both a bloodcurdling and chilling experience.

Traditionally I have declared this attraction to be Milwaukee's Scariest haunt. This year's edition of the Mars Haunted House once again makes a good case to continue as the area's top attraction. If you've enjoyed Mars in the past or if your just looking for a good scare or two you certainly won't be disappointed this year.

If you're into evaluating haunts with your senses you might find this helpful:

* Sight: Elaborate sets with great attention to detail. Lighting and
special effects were frequently used to surprise me even though I was expecting
it.

*Sound: Superb! The sound experience allowed me to become totally
immersed in many of the rooms….especially immediately upon entering this haunt!

* Smell: Ever wonder what death smells like?  …you’ll know the answer by the time you
depart this haunt.

* Touch:  Feel the splatter of
blood or a reaper breathing down your neck!

Signage / Visibility / Location

If the hearse parked by the front door and the elaborately dressed ghouls meandering along
the sidewalk don't catch your attention you may be dead already...but if you're not you probably wouldn't be the first person to drive past the site.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Be on the watch for Stiches & Violator! Words won't do justice for these ghouls…but trust
me, when you encounter them you'll know it! Elaborately dressed ghouls interact with you to heighten your anticipation while you wait to enter. The waiting line is all outdoors...so dressing for the weather may be a good idea if you're attending during peak haunting hours.

Actors' Performance

The performance of the characters outside was exceptional! Inside the haunt the actors’
focused more on scaring the bejeezus out of you than entertaining you.

Sets Scenes / Props / FX

Definitely worth checking out! With the total immersion and interaction with the actors and
sound in each room it's very easy to miss some of the attention to detail found in each room.... there are plenty of outstanding effects to keep you visually entertained when you’re not jumping out of your skin.  As was the case last year…at the risk of giving away one of the best effects found at this haunt the ”Laser Vortex” is definitely worth checking out.

Length

About 10-12 minutes

Crowd Control

Waiting line is clearly roped off and patrolled frequently by ghouls.

Most Memorable Moment

In addition to stimulating your sense of sight, sound and feel the Mar’s Haunt this year also excites your sense of smell. The smell of death was quite prevalent through many of the rooms I visited. The stench was so strong it seemed to linger in my nostrils well after my departure.

Summary

Once again, an outstanding attraction for those who like to be scared. While not completely redone this year, if you've enjoyed Mars in the past or you just plain like to be scared you certainly won't be disappointed this year.

Review

I would say that Mars Haunted House has done a really good job this year again. Keeping things fresh, it was nice to see some new added sets and props from previous years as well as new actors and characters. It is also nice to see some from previous years make a return as well. I feel Mars Haunted House's has some of the best actors working the waiting area. They are always done up in the BEST costumes and do a great job at keeping you entertained and they add a lot to the fun! Inside you will find very detailed sets and good props as well as edger actors ready to frighten you! I would say this haunt is best for teens and adults, but they do have a day where you can take kids and the scare factor is not as high as on a common night. I would say this is a haunted house worth  checking out if you haven't already and since I have been going for 8 or 9 years, it is obviously one I feel is worth revisiting as well!

Signage / Visibility / Location

There is a hearse parked outside the haunted house with the name on it that is visible. It is on a very well lit street and there are plenty of actors outside roaming the line that will grab your attention.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

I was very impressed with the actors scaring people in line. My favorite of the 3 was a silly redneck clown called "Stitches". There is also a vampire and another evil clown, They do a wonderful job of adding a few laughs to the scares and do a good job of getting you excited to go in the haunt!

Actors' Performance

Most the actors did a really good job at timing when they would jump out to scare you and some came from unexpected places. One crawled out from under a bookshelf which I did not expect and it did startle me a fair bit! They did a good job of staying in character, and walking after you after you left the room which added to the scare.

Sets Scenes / Props / FX

I liked a lot of the sets and the props were well used in the sets. A lot of it was reused from previous years, but it was nice to see them used in a different way. My only complaint was that in 2 of the rooms they used something to make the rooms smell REALLY bad, so bad that I found myself rushing out of them and rushing along to the next room, though it was good to keep the people moving I guess, it was very unpleasant and took me out of the experience... I just wanted to get out. I didn't have a chance really to enjoy those sets much either because of that. If they were going for an "uncomfortable" feeling, they succeeded, but it was not something I would want to go through again! Another minor thing, was that the floors were very uneven throughout the haunt. In the past people have used pillows and such to create this effect, and it felt to me there were just a lot of lose boards and broken up wood on the ground. It was a nice effect, but in a haunted house where its very dark, it seemed a little unsafe. I almost tripped twice and husband did trip into me once. Pillows are a little better for this I feel, you still are stable and if you do fall its not going to be a hard landing.

Length

It took us about 15 min to walk through it.. this could be because I walked a lot quicker through the smelly rooms though.

Crowd Control

It was good. It was just my husband and I and they let us go in the 2 of us. They seemed to let a lot of people in just with the groups they came with which is nice, and we didn't bump into another crowd in the haunt.

Most Memorable Moment

I really liked the opening of this haunt, or the first room you enter. You get a little history about the building being REALLY haunted which adds to the fear I think. They do a good job of getting you excited for the ride!

Summary

I have been going to Mars Haunted House for 8 or 9 years now and I am always pleased with it. The actors do a good job, the make up is well done, they have some really great masks they use and the sets are always different year to year and well designed. I was a little sad to see out "bearded lady" friend was not in it this year, he was always very funny from previous years, but the big guy wondering the hallways was pretty scary and could be my new favorite in this haunt, as well as "Stitches" working outside. I was also sad to not find our Devil friend from last year, but maybe he was not working that night. I think everyone in the haunt and working outside it does a good job and adds to the experience however, I just have some personal favorites. I would recommend this haunt to people looking to get scared, but NOT too scared and who enjoy a good creepy atmosphere. I only warn you about the really smelly rooms and the uneven ground.

Mars has done it again! they have definatly stepped up this year and although alot of the rooms havent changed that much from last year they still managed to make it different. All the actors did an amazing job inside and out. In that I have a few actors I would like to point out and compliment that really got me. The girl in the cage....Outstanding! she did her acting to a T and made me believe I was in a Saw movie.. The guy in the poop room as disturbing as it is to see poop on the walls and ceiling and have it smell like poop for the man sitting in that room I give him props. He made me laugh til I had tears in my eyes... The Zombie by the curtain and bookshelf room that trapped us in the dining area was the trippiest thing ive seen with the twisting and twitching and being caught between that and the dog thing in the fireplace my group didnt know what to do and that Woman that bangs on the wall and pops out from behind it from utter blackness made me jump. I was not expecting that caught already between 2 actors. amazing job.... and lastly the giant guy at the end was awesome! never lost his energy and scared you all through that room

Summary

All in All it was a good haunt and definatly worth the money spent. I would Definatly go again. the only downside I could think of was the group in front of us ruining the scares. I guess it was just because they didnt want to show everyone else that they were really scared but then again you get those with every haunt. and to the actors that didnt get mentioned dont think it was because you didnt scare me or because you were not good enough to be mentioned. you all were great though I believe some could do more but those few really stuck out for me. Mars keep up the awesome work and TY for making me jump and be scared out of my mind

Mars was a great haunted house-they had all different kinds of scares and you never knew which way or where the next one was going to come from next. Just beware of the floor it ramps up and down harshly and sometimes without waring, and you may mistep and fall. Thea actors were great and took their roles seriously. The props were also not cheap either. It was a long haunt-took about 15-20 min to walk through. You definately get what you pay for and there are coupons at Halloween Express.
