This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring up to 10 lbs of excess candy to Pewaukee Dental and receive $1 per pound.
Dr. Mike Schneidler is leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and goody bags with toothbrushes and items donated by area businesses. Many of our returning children have just given their candy for the “soldiers” and told us to keep the money for shipping. These thoughtful and generous children created the Halloween Candy Give Back. Either option – it’s your choice.
Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids teeth are being cared for more than ever. Candy, as well as hurting children’s teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.
The candy and other donated goodies, like Baby Wipes, are shipped to our military men and women deployed in harms way. We have heard from many service members that they give the candy and stuffed animals to the local children, who in turn provide information on where IED’s (bombs) are hidden. As one stated: “Not only are you putting smiles on our faces, you are saving our lives.” Visit: www.opgratitude.com for a list of all the items our military can use.
“Ditch the candy, that’s what we’re saying. Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with excessive sweets would really give your teeth a healthy boost,” says Dr. Mike Schneidler from Pewaukee Dental. “Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, help our military and fill their piggy banks as well.
Candy and other donations from the list will be collected at Pewaukee Dental on Thursday, November 1 only from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The candy must be unopened. Please no bites.
Dr. Mike Schneidler is the owner of Pewaukee Dental, which emphasizes general family dental care as well as cosmetic procedures.
