Halloween Hodgepodge

Overview - Village of Terror

Village of Terror
Attended on Saturday, October 8

This was my first time attending the Village of Terror and I can say I will definitely return! I’ve never attended such a unique event/haunt before and wish we would have spent the entire night here as we didn’t get to see everything they had.

The Village of Terror consists of several haunts, magic shows, shops and other entertainment. Throughout the grounds we saw zombies and vampires roaming about.

Unfortunately, we only had time to go through three of their haunted attractions. If I remember correctly, I believe the first one was the BiG ToP Haunt of Horrors. We weren’t really sure where we were supposed to go to start, as there was no line what so ever. We proceeded down the hill and stepped inside. There were only about four or five actors total inside, and we caught one texting.

At one point in the haunt, we weren’t sure where we were supposed to go and the actor pointed to a curtain. We walked into a dark room with some barrels and stood there wondering if we were supposed to continue down a pitch black hallway. I’m still not sure if that was the right way or not, but for me, this made it even scarier as the whole place has a circus type feel to it, like everything was just thrown together and some crazy killer could pop out at any moment, and with it being so empty inside, no one would ever know.

They did a nice job with the décor and had a moving floor and a vortex tunnel. The whole haunt took somewhere between 5-10 minutes.  They should probably work on pointing out where the start is, because as we left, a group was walked up and asked if we were at the entrance.

I had hoped to take Dr. Virgil Harker’s Haunted Hayride, but the line was long so we decided to walk about some more. They have a tent with tables where you can watch movies and they had a concession building where you can buy a variety of items including beer cheese soup and beer. Wisconsin at its finest!

I believe the second haunt we went through was Franko’s Amazing Maze. This was a true maze. We walked around in circles several times. There were only three or four actors in this haunt, but it didn’t really need more than that. Once again, feeling that creepy circus isolated feeling was enough of a scare for me. They had mirrors and doors which helped us get twisted around. There was even a chainsaw character! With the exception of feeling lost and the chainsaw guy, this one wasn’t as scary as it was outside and very well lit.

We also went through Dr. Nightshades Exhibit of Unnatural Oddities. This haunt, was once again short, but well decorated. Unfortunately it wasn’t very scary; however we did go through very shortly before closing which may have contributed to this.

As it was almost closing time, we looked through a shop with some Victorian type items and went to another shop where my fortune was told for a small fee.

Overall I completely loved the Village of Terror with its creepy old time circus feel and will return in the future!
