First haunts of the season

Halloween Hodgepodge

We finally got to get out to some haunts this season! The staff of HauntedWisconsin.com along with our Biggest Fan contest winner and guest headed out for a night of haunting. Our first stop was Paulo's Pizza where we shared an enormous pizza and a huge bowl of garlic bread.

We then headed to Monster Mayhem, right in the basement of Paulo's Pizza! We met with the friendly staff and got a quick behind the scenes tour. They really put a lot of work into their haunt and it shows! This is only the second year of Monster Mayhem, but they impressed me again. Gotta love that elevator music! They made a few changes this year which included some....water features. It may seem like an odd place for a haunt, but it's worth checking out!
Johnny and Dan at Gilly's
Our next stop was Gilly's Haunted House. We got a quick tour of their newly expanded haunt and then our very own "The Johnny" and our winner got their make-up done. We weren't sure what look Johnny was going for, so Dan opted for a mask and outfit which suited him. We were then allowed to take our turn at scaring some poor souls. It's not as easy as it looks, but we had a great time trying! We then took a regular tour through the house and got to appreciate all the hard work they put into their show.

We still had some time left, so we decided to stop on out to the Wisconsin Feargrounds. They made quite a few changes this year, all for the better! The horse stable waiting area is back and the actors do a disturbingly good job at creeping everyone out. Morgan Manor was outstanding this year as well as Morgana's Torment and the new Unstable. They always do a great job at detail, but I thought the lighting they had this year really helped show how great it is. The actors at this haunt are very dedicated and never broke character. We got there near closing and they were still giving everything they had.

Thank you to Monster Mayhem, GIlly's Haunted House and the Wisconsin Feargrounds, for not only showing us, but our winner, a spooktacular time!!

We went as a large group to the Wisconsin Feargrounds. I was quite disappointed. The first house was boring. Not once did I even jump. I agree that the lighting was good (probably the best part). The second house was just plain dark! The only investment into that show was the drop panels and the claustrophobia bags. No creativity. Finally, Unstable was cheezeeee! I like the actual area they have to work with and the actors did the best with the props they had but it could have been sooooo much better. Now that's where lighting would have been effective, and I don't mean all dark! Good job actors but not so good to the designer of the sets! It was a waste of $30 a person. The burrial chamber in Appleton was great and so was the one in Slinger by the JC's. The C's had some new setup and cool new props. Good job!
