This past weekend, the HW staff had the terrifying opportunity to visit Dr. Scary's in Fort Atkinson. Now, normally the HW staff doesn't post "reviews" of events that we attend. We take great pride in maintaining an unbiased and supportive professionalism towards all of Wisconsin's Haunts. However, I feel compelled to at least share an anecdote of our phenomenal experience.A couple of amazing Janesville Haunts had dished up some fantastic scares for us, and now it was time to meet the Doctor! The drive out to Jellystone campground was dark, desolate and wooded. The air smelled of burning leaves, earth,...
HauntedWisconsin's very own Director of Marketing, Communications and Special Operations, Dan Strelecki (that's me!) will be on the Portage County airwaves this afternoon. I will be a guest on the What's Your Story show, hosted by Hilary Bilbrey, from 12:20 until 1pm. Tune into WSPT AM1010 for some frightful tales.
I thought I'd clear the decayed remnants from my keyboard and make a delightful post for all you guys and ghouls on this brisk October night. After many an inquiry, the topic is plain and simple: a baker's dozen of awesome horror films (in no particular order) (and I wouldn't say any of these are 'family-friendly') (well, maybe if you're that family in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre). 28 Days Later Candyman Feast Inside Alien (genre disambiguation, cut me some slack) Suspiria High Tension The Blair Witch Project Frontiere(s) Martyrs The Thing (1982) The Orphan Killer The Exorcism of Emily Rose...
Perhaps you are a Wiccan preparing to celebrate the New Year, bless the Guardians of the Watchtowers in a Samhain rite and give thanks for the harvest... Perhaps you're a haunt fan preparing for a night of scares and screams... Perhaps you are a parent of a family of four searching for trick or treat times and last minute party ideas... Perhaps you are a haunt owner checking in on your web page and reviews... Perhaps you are discovering this site for the first time because you heard our radio ad or saw our promo material at a Halloween Express... Perhaps...
I want to extend a belated thank you to a few haunts for the hospitatlity and good times given to myself, my friends and family:Spooky Stalks was great again this year. We went on a moonless night which made the Milwaukee County corn maze that much scarier. Bruce, the owner, put on a fantastic show (even though they aren't that scary, right Bruce?) and even mustered a a yelp out of a veteran like me. Good job guys, that's not an easy task! The maze has new scenes and scares for 2009 and is definitely worth the short drive up...
I want to take a minute to welcome the HauntedWisconsin staff's newest team member, Johnny "Big Daddy" Ramos. Johnny is an RC OG, meaning he's one of the four original founding members of the Review Crew from year one. He has contributed greatly to the success of this site, behind the scenes, for several years. Well now he'll be on the front lines as a full time staff member. Besides myself, Johnny is the only other full time slave to Jen and Andy, I mean employee. Mr. Ramos' unique sense of humor and literary skills have proven...
The word on the streets, and by streets I mean from an employee at the local Waukesha Starbucks, says the nectar of Autumn gods will make its triumphant return on September 1st. Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks locations near you, 09.01.09. Mark it on your iPhone, PDA, calendar or tattoo it on your forehead.
So I wanted to let everyone know that the Yankee Candle store in Brookfield Square has an assortment of limited edition Halloween candles and accessories in stock. The on-hand stock is quickly depleting and the guy working today said when it's gone it's gone. They have everything from tealight holders to votives to their signature large jar candles. Yankee Candle has released Halloween themed scents including Moonlight Harvest, Patchouli, Candy Corn, Autumn Leaves and various pumpkin spiced candles. Don't miss out on the selection if you're interested, get there soon!!
This is my first blog entry in quite some time and for good reason: I've lost my creative edge lately. However, I practice makes better. I just wanted to say that your favorite Halloween website and staff are hard at work behind the scenes. Site updates, 5 hour meetings, lots of coffee, hidden zombies, Review Crew.09 rising from the grave and plenty of new Haunts across Wisconsin ready to assist to the ICU (Involuntary Cowering Urination). -- Cheers and Fears.
