Signage / Visibility / Location

We knew how to get there from attending in the past, but if this was our first time, I'm not sure we would have been able to find it. There's a bright sign once you get there, but getting there will be the tricky part unless you have good directions. But I think that kind of lends to the spookyness of it, having it a bit outside the citylimits.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

This house has the BEST wait area. Very big, with a big bonfire and a good concessions stand. They call out group numbers, and then when your number is called, you walk up to the house. The music volume was appropriate and you could hear them annoucing the group numbers clearly, unlike in the past. Unfortunately, the scares as you walk to the house and were in the waiting area just weren't there. I hope this is because it was opening weekend. You have to walk through a VERY dark woods, and there should be people jumping out at you, at least there was in the past. Nobody came at us, so I was a little disappointed at that. Even so, walking in a dark woods at night is creepy!

Most Unique

I'm not going to give this away, but this house has something new this year that I've never seen (or felt) in a haunted house before. Very cool and shocking! :)

Actors' Performance

Again, leading up to the house was very poor. There were MANY actors just standing around talking. The age of some of the actors seemed a bit odd to me. About half of them outside seemed to be 8 to 10 years old. I know I'm getting older, but actors this young seem to suffer from not only height disadvantages... but also they just weren't into it. Once inside the house, it was a different story!!! Most of the actors were great, several actors gave us some good scares that still have us talking.

Summary

Seriously, one of the BEST houses in Wisconsin. I've been attending scares for the past 16 years, and I can't say enough good things about this one. Excellent wait area, the house is huge which means that it's alot longer than most, it's DARK and creepy the way houses should be, they really use noises and sound effects to their benifit, and it's creative.

One thing I'd like to note, and I hope people who put on haunted houses read this. When using strobes lights, you need to be CAREFUL! I'm a professional entertainer who uses strobes, and I'm familiar with the different kinds availible. There was one point in this house where it was pitch black and we were strobed with a extremely high powered strobe (750 watts!) from about 4 feet away. A smaller strobe (75 watts or even 50)would have done the trick when it's that dark. I went to bed that night still seeing the glare of the strobe. Those high powered lights are meant to be used from a distance (like a dance hall mounted up very high), you could seriously damage someone's vison!

With all of that said, you don't have to spend a ton of money to do a haunted house right... just give use scares!

Green Bay Fear Presented by The Beja Shriners

Fun Factor: Low Fear Factor: Medium

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

It was easy to find, pretty much right off the highway, and once you were close you could see the signs.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

There was hardly any wait time, I'm guessing this was because it was the opening weekend.

Most Unique

There were two scares that got us more than anything else, and they happened walking up to the house... not in the house. Also, I must give props to their website. It's excellent, the best I've seen. It's what made us want to go to the house in the first place.

Actors' Performance

The overall actors performace was ok. They were trying, but it just wasn't very scary. The focus of the house seemed to be more of the 3-D aspect than scaring you. Again, this was the first weekend so they may have been light staffed.

Summary

They use a lot of neon colors that glowed and they used lots strobes. When wearing the 3-D glasses, it gave me a slight headache near the end. The music was not scary at all. It was banjo music... no, I'm not kidding.

I'm into old school scare: Dark places, creepy music, etc.. The trend of some houses is glow colors and visual effects. This house falls into the second catagory. I might have high expectations, but then again, there are other houses that meet them.

Terror on the Fox

Fun Factor: High Fear Factor: Low

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

Extremely easy to find.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Nice wait area, everything you could want in a wait area.

Most Unique

The cave was pretty neat.

Actors' Performance

On the train, OK. In the house, so-so. Many were off, meaning they jumped out when we were already on our way out the room. I know it's still early in the season, so maybe their main actors weren't working.

Appropriate For

10+

Summary

I really want to like Terror on the Fox, but the past few years I walk out disappointed. It's clear they spend a lot of time, money and effort into getting the look they want... but the scares aren't there. Neat to look at, but just not scary.

The new feature this year is not worth the extra ticket price. It's just the Vortex that they've had for a decade in a different place and a bunch of 3D art on the wall. This should just be included in the price. I personally feel they are over-priced.

One thing that pleased me is that it's not so much a techno club (lots of neon and dance lights) like it was in the past few years.

Signage / Visibility / Location

It was pretty easy to find with directions.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Excellent wait area with the bonfire and grounds. Walking through the woods to get to the wait area is the best, it really sets the mood! The actors should stay in characters when around customers. There were several just walking around, but not doing anything. (have your smoke breaks somewhere the customers can't see) I know it's early in the season, so hopefully they will beef up the scares while people wait. One problem last year was you could not hear the groups being called out over the music. This year they turn the music down when announcing. The music was Pink Floyd and the movie they were showing was The Wizzard of Oz. Neither scary. Here's a great opportunity get people in the right mind-set... so hopefully they start playing scary music/movies.

Most Unique

There's a few, and I don't want to give anything away. But they really give you plenty of surprise scares.

Actors' Performance

Once in the house they were very good. One girl gave the best screams I ever heard!

Appropriate For

12+

Summary

They did a good job of changing some things from last year to keep it fresh. The slide is always fun, but you stop half-way down. They advertise no cameras or flashlights, yet they sell glow sticks, etc.. This defeats the purpose of a dark scary place when people walk in with things that glow or light up. They need to inforce the "no light" policy better. All in all, this haunt is great. Nice and long, more bang for your buck!

The Morgue Haunted House

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

It was pretty easy to find. Far enough out to make it spooky.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

To get to the house, you have to take a walk in the woods. This was definately the best part of the night. Dark and scarey! It was about an hour wait, not bad. A HUGE bonfire kept everybody warm. They had a large screen for viewing different things, but It was pretty borning... they didn't really show anything of interest. They could have used more than one actor that walked around every once and awhile scaring people waiting. I like the idea of calling up the groups over an intercom, but it was very hard to hear over the blaring music.

Most Unique

The trail in the woods, and the ending. Both were AWESOME!

Actors' Performance

Not bad, but in many rooms it seems they were always several seconds off. We would be on our way out of the room when someone would jump out when we were well past them.

Appropriate For

10 and up

Summary

The house itself is great. Just the way they should be... dark and spooky. It was a refreshing change from the current trend of houses becoming neon techno clubs.

Fun Factor: Not fun - I got a rock. Fear Factor: Low

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

It was EXTREMELY hard to find. The directions provided to Haunted Wisconsin are only good if you are in Denmark, which didn't help me as I was coming from Green Bay. So I clicked on "View map", and then received directions from there. This lead us to the middle of no-where, as the wrong address was entered into Map-quest either by Haunted Wisconsin or the designers of the MM. We were basically lost for a half hour. Then we finally found a gas station, which gave us vauge directions at best. It was a bad way to start the night...

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

There was NO ONE there. Nobody! Talk about creepy. Apparantly there was a high school football game going on. The entertainment was non-existant, and we had to wait about 20 minutes for the actors to get into costume, etc.

Most Unique

Having to lay down in a casket, it was the only part of the house that I thought was cool.

Actors' Performance

Although they were nice people, this was low budget and poorly acted house. There was maybe one or two scares, but 99% of the actors were too friendly.

Appropriate For

8 and up

Summary

They did spend some time on this event, but it simply was low budget and not very creative. Also be aware, it's held in a barn where there is hay and live animals. I have allergies, and I was itchy eyes and skin when I was done.
