Signage / Visibility / Location

Map from HuantedWisconsin.com worked just fine. Led us right to the fairgrounds. From there torches led us to the haunt.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

There were a couple of snack trucks where you buy your ticket. Then waited on benches outside. Acting troup walked around in black cloaks talking jibberish to the patrons. They put on a good show.

Length

Wait: Since perhaps tha earlier rain scared peopple off, there wasn't much of a wait at all. Maybe 10 minutes. Event: 15 to 20 minutes.

Actors' Performance

All of them were very good. Especially the hostess who guided us into the enterance. Even though we made her laugh and get out of character for half a second. She still did a good job.

Appropriate For

12 and up.

Summary

Set to look like a huge crypt, the Darkness had tons of special effects, good actors and great ambience. Maybe could have been a bit longer. The facade is pretty cool to.

Signage / Visibility / Location

If you're coming off the hwy, Alpine Valley is easy to find per instructions from web site. If you're traveling by country road, you can get lost pretty easily. Stick to the hwy! There was a sign at the Resort enterance, but not the ampitheater entrance.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

They had a consession area, a guy wandering about in a cloak and metal mask, a couple of videogames and true wisconsin ghost stories posted in the line. They also had a bunch of paranormal investigators hanging out in the snack area. But to be "in line" you had to pass by all of that.

Length

Wait: Apx 30 minutes. Event: Apx 15 to 20 minutes.

Actors' Performance

The majority of actors were really good, however there were a few who seemed to have all the enthusiasm of an avacado pit.

Appropriate For

13 and up.

Summary

Having a theme and storyline associated with this haunt was pretty cool. Most of the scenes were built and designed really well! Unfortunately, we got put through with a larger group and missed some of the scares. I think that it could have been a bit longer in the end, but overall worth the price of admission (a bit lower than a lot of the big haunts in the area!)

Bear Den Haunted Woods

by Zangz after attending on Friday, October 8, 2004 at about 7 p.m.

Fun Factor: High Fear Factor: Very High

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

Directions were good. THere was one sign at the entrance.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

There's pumpkins for sale and some snacks.

Length

We were first tto arrive, so there was about 5 to 10 minutes of a wait.

Actors' Performance

Very good!!!

Appropriate For

13 and up.

Summary

This haunt is the sleeper of haunted attractions. I'm surprised that there isn't more of a buzz about it. Mya friends and I were incredibly impressed. Has a real rustic, Taxas Chainsaw / Deliverence vibe to it. You never know when one of the multitude of actors will pop out at you. We all highly suggest it!

Haunted Cornfield at Meadowbrook Pumpkin Farm

Fun Factor: High Fear Factor: High

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

Good signs along the way from the freeway. Easy to find.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Lots of pumpkins and other stuff to buy. The wait was along side a bunny and poultry pen.

Length

It was about 1/2 hour, if that.

Actors' Performance

Pretty good.

Appropriate For

12 and up.

Summary

Although there were some pacing problems, the haunt was really good over all!! The tableaus were upgraded this year and the size of the corn maze is huge!

Terror on Rural Street

by Zangz after attending on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at about 9:15 p.m.

Fun Factor: Very High Fear Factor: High

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

Although there aren't any signs for it while on route to the location, it's easy to ge to with the directions on the website.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Trimmed down this year. While it was warm in the room and they had some consessions, they only had one pinball game and a computerized video shooting gallery. No other video games as in the past.

Length

From purchasing tix to entering the front door of the "Fusion of Fear", about 30 minutes.

Actors' Performance

Very good!!!

Appropriate For

14 and up.

Summary

Complete overhaul from years past. Usually I'm not a fan of the industrial / Sci-Fi versions of haunts. But, this haunt was a complete overhaul of years past. It was completley new with a ton of new special effects and sets! All of it done incredibly well!!!

Hauntfest

by Zangz after attending on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at about 4:19 a.m.

Fun Factor: Low Fear Factor: High

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

Huge sign on the building. In State Fair Park.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Thaey had some boths to seel merch and some psychics to read your future.

Length

Since it was opening weekend, the wait was about 10 minutes.

Actors' Performance

The few actors they had were excellent, but few.

Appropriate For

12 and up.

Summary

Well, it was advertised that both the 3D maze and the Zombie Trail were to be opened for this haunt. Fo some reason the Zombie trail was not ready. So we went through the only adult haunt available, the 3D maze.

The effect of the 3D imagery coming from the walls was very cool. The few acotrs they had inside were well costumed and great at scares. However the haunt was VERY quick, well under 10 minutes. And outside of the beautiful 3D murals on the walls, there weren't that many special effects or ambience. DOn't know if it was worth the $10 for a 5 minute maze.

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

With the diriections, very good.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

We got there 45 minutes early, so the only wait we had was the 45 minutes before they opened. Once they opened, 10 minutes tops. Again, we got there EARLY.

Length

They claimed about 35 minutes. I think it took us about 20.

Actors' Performance

The ghouls were great, when the timing was right. We found ourselves, bunched up with the group before us. So we missed out on a lot of scares, but did see the performances.

Appropriate For

13 and up.

Summary

Like last year, this haunt had a lot of energy and adrenalin behind it. However it seemed to be almost an exact replica of last year. They also heavily relied on dark mazes which made up a good 80 to 90% of thier show. More scenes, less dark mazes and something new would have made it as good as last year. But still a good show.

Haunted Cornfield at Meadowbrook Pumpkin Farm

by Zangz after attending on Friday, October 10, 2003 at about 7:15 p.m.

Fun Factor: High Fear Factor: High

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

Directions and signs were pretty good.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Not much entertainment. But there was a vegatable stand with tons 'o pumpkins!

Length

It took us about 40 minutes to get through!

Actors' Performance

Pretty good. Outside of a few mistimed mix ups, they actors new when to jump out at you.

Appropriate For

12 and up

Summary

The fact that the stalks are very tall and close together, make th experience much creepier than expected. They actually put forth an effert to have "scenes" within the maze.

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

Got the directions off of this website. Worked out great!

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

It wasn't more than 15 minutes, very quick! They had young actresses dressed as the living dead wandering around the waiting room. They also had a snack bar.

Length

25 - 30 minutes!

Actors' Performance

The actors were in excellent form, as always!

Appropriate For

15 and up.

Summary

The whole show this year was fun for all of us, as usual!! But, some of the effects are getting a tad old. I do like the way they try and reinvent them every year, but I'm starting to know what's coming when I walk into a room and see a specific effect. I know it's cost effective, but....

Hartford Jaycees Haunted House

by Zangz after attending on Friday, October 3, 2003 at about 7:15 p.m.

Fun Factor: High Fear Factor: High

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

Signs and a giant inflatable ghost. Very easy to find!

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

Food and souveniers and a guy dressed as the grim reaper joking with folks. Nothing much else.

Length

Had to be at least 20 minutes, perhaps more!

Actors' Performance

Most of the actor's did their best.

Appropriate For

13 and up.

Summary

The Harford JC's always astound me twith the level of detail that they put into the sets. When you're not being scared, it's fun to take a close look at what's in the rooms to see all the detail that other haunts sometimes skimp on.

Hartford Jaycees Haunted House

by Zangz after attending on Friday, October 11, 2002 at about 9 p.m.

Fun Factor: High Fear Factor: Medium

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

Very easy to find with the website's directions and the giant inflatable ghost at the enterance to Fireman's Park.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

By the time we got there, about 35 minutes. Not bad.

Length

10 minutes.

Actors' Performance

Most were very good and totally into their roles. A few were unenthusiastic! One cast member had a very, very long line, and you could tell this person was sick of repeating it. But hey, that's the Haunt world!

Appropriate For

12 and up.

Summary

This was all around good fun. The short haunted trail on your way up to the spooky old house is right out of a classic horror movie. The house itself was heavy on scenery and scenarios that were put together very well. Lot's of little details that made this Haunt lots of fun. Not that many dark mazes to trod through.

I gues it could have been a bit scarier, but over all a very worthy Haunt!!!

Terror on Rural Street

by Zangz after attending on Friday, October 11, 2002 at about 7:30 p.m.

Fun Factor: High Fear Factor: High

Review

Signage / Visibility / Location

With the directions on the their website, it was pretty easy.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

The night we went it was no more than a half an hour. Perhaps that's because it was earlier in the evening and not too close to Halloween.

Length

I'd guess about 15 minutes.

Actors' Performance

Most of the actors and actresses did a great job.

Appropriate For

12 and up.

Summary

It was refreshing to see the whole show completely revamped. Even the facade at the beginning was changed. Gone was the ornate, effects ladden Castle and drawbridge. In it's place a more subtle and very creepy alley way to a Coffin Company. Once again Terror on Rural Street does a wonderful job in the dark attraction business. Many incredible effects and dark mazes. The only things I was a bit disappointed about was the facts that they relied too heavily on dark mazes. It almost felt that over half the time you were feeling around in the dark, which is very frightening at first but can get old pretty quick. The other thing was that they didn't seem to have as many dramatic scenes as they had in the past. However, the effects and scenes that they did have were all excellent!! The wax museum scenario was top notch!

Agian it was a yearly favorite! I'll most certainly go next year!!!
